Photojournalist Pam Spaulding has spent the last 30 years documenting the everyday happenings of a Kentucky family. Her new book AN AMERICAN FAMILY: Three Decades with the McGarveys offers an intimate look at a middle class family in the late 20th and early 21st century.
Her eloquent portrait of this family takes you places few see outside their own nuclear family and offers a glimpse of a sadly forgotten craft, the documentary photo story. The book published by the National Geographic Society features over 200 pages with photos and anecdotes that give such detail if one were to meet a member of the McGarvey family it would seem as if you had been friends for years.
